It creates chloramine gas โ a toxic vapor that attacks your eyes, throat, and lungs. Bleach and ammonia are both common cleaners, and mixing them is one of the most dangerous accidents that can happen in a kitchen or bathroom.
People usually don't do it on purpose. It happens when someone sprays one cleaner, then grabs a different bottle โ or pours leftovers together. The two chemicals react immediately, and the gas comes off the liquid fast, especially in a small space like a bathroom.
Chloramines are so irritating that your body reacts instantly โ which is your warning to get out. The danger is staying in the room trying to finish cleaning, or trying to "air it out" while standing in it.
One cleaner at a time. Rinse the surface with plain water before switching products, and never combine bottles "to make it stronger." Stronger isn't what happens โ toxic gas is.
